Performance Life Coach for Athletes

There are two things about me you should know: I love to excel and help athletes excel with their sport. I love what sports are all about. And what is that? Striving to be the best you can be and along the way character will be developed. Two: Winning and pushing your limits when you don’t think you have any more limits to be pushed. Either way, these two goals will push you even if winning, or getting paid with your chosen sport eludes your dreams. It is a win, win situation because you will be a better person, and team player in life and work.

I am a certified performance life coach dedicated to helping athletes reach their full potential with their sport.  I always say to my athletes I coach. You don’t want to look back 10-20 years from now and say: what if? This is the worst feeling in the world. You should instead look back and say: I did the very best I could give to reach my full potential. How do you know you are being the best athlete you can be?

I know now looking back with my sports journey; I never reached my full potential. I made mistakes and trusted the wrong people. However, I learned from my, mistakes and“what ifs” to be a better coach in Hockey and Track and Field.  I learned from my mistakes so I could help athletes not make the same. I was molested by a man I trusted, which brought me to drugs to try and forget when I was 19-20 and 21.  I did not know how to be a team player for the most part, I didn’t believe in myself, I was angry; I was terrified to lose because I was embarrassed what my parents and piers were or would be thinking.  I made a lot of mistakes on my own and by listening to the wrong people. Even if you haven’t gone through this, your sports journey will still be challenging, and we all need help to be the best we can be.

What did I accomplish even though I had all these battles going on inside my head? I did pretty well despite it all, but I could have been much more successful as a person and athlete if I had only known what I know now.  If only I had the proper coach or coaches. WHAT IF...You don’t have to go through this?  You will never know how good you are unless you put your heart and soul in your sport.

Back to my accomplishments just so you know a little background with my sports:  Up to when I was 19, I received awards for best pitcher in BC and Canada. I could make a ball dance with pinpoint accuracy. My last year playing, I got rookie of the year. Then I quit!

Talk about a, “WHAT IF” now; however, this is ok.  Then I got into playing hockey as a goalie. In the two years playing, I had an Ex Goalie who played for the farm team for the Montreal Canadians want to train me and put me on a Junior Team. This only my second year playing.  I continued to play throughout the years and have had many elite players tell me, if you only started playing when you were younger you might have made the NHL. Again, a WHAT IF?

Now in 2011 and at the age of 47, I competed 2 years ago (2009) at the Nationals in the 100 and 200 meter running events, and came home with a silver. I lost by 1-100 of a second in the 100m.

Since 2000 I have been a fitness trainer and coach in Track and Field, taught Aerobics for 3 years to women. Assistant Coach/Goalie Coach a Midget Rep Hockey Team where we were the only team to win an Island Championship the 30+ years the team has been playing. Our goalie was considered the best goalie in BC.  I have trained and worked with woman and athletes of all ages to hone my skills to what I am passionate about now – helping athletes be the best they can be and learn how to lose, improve, and win. Only a handful have a, what is necessary (W.I.N.) attitude to want to go the winning route journey.

I can identify with any challenges athletes face because I have been there and been eye witness to it all. I have seen talented athlete waste it all away, I have seen slow starters bring it on later on. One just never knows until they are 18,19-20+ if they persisted with excellence of course.

I have trained athletes to the podium in running events at a Provincial and National Level in track and field. I know exactly what is necessary for athletes to reach their full potential. For starters you need:

  1. Commitment - one has to be committed 100%
  2. Preparation - if you fail to plan, you plan to fail (GOALS)
  3. Movement - taking it one step at a time
  4. A Performance Coach – to be there to support, listen, empower, give advice, and never let you give up on yourself when others will.

With these 4 ingredients, you give yourself the best chance for success. If the plan is realistic and at the same time, challenging, you will succeed! Don’t start, get going!
